Dave Bland Meets Yet Another Deadline For The Mansfield Group

Posted 21st February 2011

Dave Bland Engineering is the North’s leading Recovery Vehicle Manufacturer, so The Mansfield Group have complete confidence when placing orders for their bodies, especially when they requested two Low Angle Ultraloaders for build over Christmas.

Darrell Mansfield, Chairman of one of the UK’s largest rescue and recovery companies, The Mansfield Group, had only just taken delivery of a Dave Bland Engineering Ultraloader in early November, but simply could not resist the hope of entering 2011 with two extra new bodies from the Yorkshire-based Body Builder.

Dave supplied the operator with 2 new Renault midlum 12.220 Crew cab chassis fitted with 5000KG Ultraloader slide bodies and rear mounted spec lift.

Perhaps more notable is the fact that The Mansfield Group are also now benefiting from the brand new all Stainless-Steel body - the first to be supplied by Dave Bland for 2011.

Dave Bland Engineering has always produced quality vehicles, but starting this year, the Stainless-Steel body will become an alternative luxury to the original mild steel body.

Darrell commented on the new chassis saying, ‘it is absolutely imperative that all of our vehicles are fully reliable so we are always looking for the very best products to compliment our service. The high quality of stainless steel will ensure our vehicles perform and remain in top condition throughout their busy 24/7 operation’.

The use of stainless steel benefits the body entirely; it is more durable and less susceptible to corrosion, it will not stain or rust as easily as ordinary steel (which can rust readily when exposed to air and moisture) – ensuring the continuation of the overall appearance of the body as well as its working order and strength.

The use of stainless steel is also extended to the tool lockers and rear light-valance, as stone chips and road salt can very quickly deteriorate these features and their appearance. The use of stainless steel deters this from happening as it will pass a 250-hour salt spray test  (opposed to the 7 hour test mild steel can withstand). The aesthetics of such equipment are maintained for many years and the need for future re-painting or re-fitting becomes less probable.

A vital addition to the body is the brand-new Stainless Steel spool valve box - The Mansfield Group again, being one of the first of Dave Bland’s customers to have this feature fitted.

For many years, operators have been supplied with mild steel spool valve boxes, which appear to be enclosed, protecting vital hydraulic hoses and fittings, when in actual fact, they have large cut-outs to the rear in order to facilitate for the installation of such controls.

Again, the use of mild steel means that the life-span of the box alone is limited, leaving the parts open to the elements and corrosive road sprays and grit, and the operator having to shell out more and more money every year for the repairs of continually failing equipment and rusted steel work.

To combat this, Dave Bland’s now standard Spool Valve Box provides fully enclosed hydraulic housing in which the hoses enclosed terminate at the back of the box, and from there, are led off to various parts of the vehicle via bulkhead fittings.

The front of the box is also fully detachable, unique to the Recovery Vehicle market. A design that can benefit busy operators like The Mansfield Group as it provides ease when repairs/refitting are required, reducing time on a somewhat awkward task.

Dave Bland commented saying ‘we try to look at what can hinder our customers in their day-to-day operation so we can look at our own equipment and think about what can stop these hindrances from occurring. One thing they definitely don’t need to be tripped up on is the design of the vehicles we are supplying them – especially something as simple as the Spool Valve Box. We could see that the standard construction of the Spool Valve Box could potentially prove difficult to work with when it came to any repairs. What we fit now suits the operation of the vehicle, and I’m confident in saying that it’s a lot more practical’.
