Fords of Winsford was established in 1959 and is the biggest car supermarket in the North West. Selling over 7,000 vehicles a year, Fords of Winsford require maximum flexibility from its fleet of delivery trucks and for the first time, the Cheshire-based company came to Dave Bland for the new addition to their team of vehicles.

The Yorkshire based body-builder supplied the car dealers with an Isuzu 7.5t car transporter, complete with a slide body and rear spec lift. For this build, longevity of the product was paramount, so an aluminium body and stainless steel lockers were added to the galvanised sub-frame.

Malcolm Bridson, Fords of Winsford’s vehicle preparation manager commented, “When we were considering changing one of our delivery vehicles, we needed to ensure that the replacement truck had a large carrying capacity, as we sell such a diverse range of vehicles from small family cars right up to the biggest and heaviest 4x4’s. The weight of the slide-bed and ancillary equipment was always going to be a challenge, and Dave Bland Engineering rose to that challenge to deliver the perfect solution for us. The carrying weight of up to 3,000kg for the Isuzu 7.5 t rigid was preserved, giving a total train weight of 8,250kg, allowing us to carry two medium cars, such as a Mondeo Estate and a Mondeo Saloon together, therefore saving time and fuel. I am positive that it will be a valuable addition to our fleet for many years to come”.

Dave Bland visited the Cheshire car-dealership personally to give a 1-1 handover, as well as a full demonstration of the simple use of the equipment to Malcolm and his team.

As part of Fords of Winsford’s growth strategy has been the introduction of delivering customers new car directly to their homes or place of work, having this new slide-bed and spec lift configuration has been a great success when off-loading in restricted residential areas.
