10 Out Of 10 For Dave Bland Engineering
Posted 12th December 2011

10 New Dave Bland Recovery systems are helping The Mansfield Group retain their stature as the UK’s largest independent recovery operator.
With 11 Service Support Centres across the UK, the company offers recovery to the North West, Yorkshire, East Midlands, and North and West Midlands, and due to further expansion, Darrell Mansfield once again returned to Dave Bland to supply him with 10 brand new builds this year alone; 8 of them being recently supplied since October.
Joining their 220-strong fleet of recovery vehicles this winter are 2 Renault Master aluminium Beavertails, and 8 Renault Midlum Ultraloader SLA slide bodies. Recorded recently to have been as low as 3.7°, the Ultraloader SLA is probably the lowest bed available for fitment in the country.
Currently the only stainless steel slide body available in the UK, the Dave Bland Ultraloader SLA will provide longevity in service and added reliability in strength – it is more durable and less susceptible to corrosion, and it will not stain or rust as easily as ordinary steel (which can rust readily when exposed to air and moisture).
Maintenance is a major benefactor in using stainless steel – aesthetics of the equipment are maintained naturally, and the need for future touch-ups and re-fitting becomes less probable. Continuation of the overall appearance of the body as well as its working order and strength is paramount for the largest independent recovery operator in the country.
Fittings such as the spool valve box are also constructed wholly in stainless steel. The valve box fitted by Dave Bland provides fully enclosed hydraulic housing in which the hoses enclosed terminate at the back of the box, and from there, are led off to various parts of the vehicle via bulkhead fittings. The box is fully protective to the interior fittings (no cuts-outs at the back!), and will reduce any electrical problems that may occur a few years from purchase.
Darrell Mansfield also chose to purchase two Dave Bland Engineering beavertail bodies, which boast a high specification. He says, “they are highly manoeuvrable and efficient to use, and have been found to be highly economical”.
Dave Bland manufactures his lightweight bodies onto a range of chassis; this durable transporter is designed and manufactured not to compromise the strength and structure of the body. The lightweight transporter includes many standard features and a number of extra options.
The Mansfield Group operate on a passion to deliver a top-class service to their customers, and it’s Dave Bland’s drive for fine work and quality that brings them back to the York-based factory time and time again.
Pre-delivery inspections at Dave Bland Engineering are of up most importance. Any item missed in final finishing will undoubtedly become a problem in the first few weeks of the vehicle’s operating life.
Darrell is very impressed that the stringent tests undertaken upon finishing at Dave Bland Engineering means that he is able to avoid time lost due to minor after-sales rectification work. He is confident that the Dave Bland products he receives are completed to his specification and ready to go to work.
Dave Bland is proud to have been awarded a further 20 Ultraloader SLA bodies to be fitted to Volvo FL 240 crew cabs, to be delivered in 2012.
